Migraines.
So I went to my doctor a couple of weeks ago, and I told her about these headaches I keep getting,
I told her about the symptoms, they start out as this tiny tiny pain in one side of my head, and I know im gonna get a headache when I feel this, but as the day progresses and I try to do the things I need to do, it gets bigger and bigger and bigger, before I can't move without my whole head just throbbing in pain.
I knew I had migraines before she told me, because migraines are the one headache associated with one sided pain.
I've tried so many things to get rid of this pain, I rub menthol on my head the one side it hurts, and that numbs it temporarily but then my head smells like mint, I use ice and that works till I take the ice off. Screw Tylenol doesnt work for me, excedrin works but it messes up my stomach because of the aspirin/caffine in it.
I wanted something that would get rid of the pain indefinetely not when I used something to make it go away temporarily.
So she went to her little 'goodies' closet, to see if she had some samples to give me. She didn't have any, but she found a $25 dollar off card for some medicine called 'Axert'.
So im like great finally some medicine, to get rid of these headaches. She gave me a perscription.
Hooray. I go to CVS yesterday because I had a migraine to get these pills.
I asked her how much the copay would be ... $40. Im like ok. a little high but whatever.
So I give her the $25 off card that brings me down to $15. So we sit there and wait.
I get the pills. There are 6 tablets. 6. Thats it. The original price is $40. That's INSANE.
Imagine if I didn't have that card. I'd be kind of flipping.
Good Medicine should not cost that much money!
I love my doctor, shes such a nice lady, but she really trys to rob the bank with me.
She perscribed me Othro Evra, also expensive, we switched to a cheaper version
that works just as fine.
Maybe she just chooses quality over quantity.
Which I appreciate but we arnt all doctors here! Some of us can't afford that kind of stuff.
So I have the meds Im thinking this BETTER be good. For that kind of money.
I take one, within a half hour the headache is gone, yay =).
One hour later/ half hours later my headache is back. =(.
So the pamphlet says to take another. I take another.
Doesn't work as fast. but it gradually numbs the headache.
By that time I was going to bed. I was still in a little pain going to bed,
but I've woken up this morning and the headache is gone.
Usually it follows me into the next day.
So I don't know if im happy with it yet, I was kind of busy yesterday,
so maybe I should have rested and waited for it to work. I don't know.
I'll have to see again the next time I get a headache.
Whats interesting about this med is its real name is Almotriptan.
I always get info on the meds im taking.
It's designed to narrow the blood vessels in the brain, and stop the pain signals being sent to the brain,
which essentialy stops the chemical from being sent out that cause pain.
Your only suppose to take 4 a month and it suggests you call your doctor if you need anymore than that.
Your only suppose to take 2 in a 24 hour period.
Your not suppose to take it if your on other anti-depressants because its a
seratonin receptor agonist. But I did and im fine. But I dont suggest anyone else doing that.
Unless you like risks or something. I dont know.
I find it interesting because I've never taken such a powerful drug that requires that sort of precaution taking?

That's the one I use. I don't remember reading that 4 a month deal. That's kind of scary because I'm able to get 10 pills in my prescription and I've been known to use them all in a month. I don't know if my body has gotten use to them or something cause they don't work as good as they use to with me, but I think I've learned my headaches enough to know if it's gonna be a superduper one or not. Taking one and then taking a long nap works wonders too.
I use to use the one where you squirted it up your nose. I like that fact that within 15 mins. the pain was gone, but ick. It was an awful experience. I could never be a coke-head.
Well I got all my information here, and thats where I read it from.
